Villefranche-de-Conflent is found in a deep valley at the confluence of two rivers, the Cady and the Tet, in the foothills of the eastern Pyrenees about 50 km west of Perpignan in Languedoc-Roussillon. The village is listed as one of the 'most beautiful villages of France and is one of the 14 Vauban sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing.
